Not a duty (well depends how you see it!), but a night off for dinner and a film, Ratatouille. Great fun.

Anyone else notice the irony of “I’m a Councillor, get me out of here.” When the aim is to stay in?…

From the next two weeks (or until I’m evicted!) I’m in “I’m a Councillor, get me out of here.” for Hertfordshire. The project organised by “The Big Vote” is designed to bring young people and councillors together (via the internet-www.bigvote.org.uk) to discuss the issues that affect them and their communities and to challenge councillors about what they do or for that matter how they do it!

Young people from local high schools ask questions of local councillors and we have to answer them in a satisfactory way or when its time to vote we may get kicked out. One of the aims is to raise awareness about politics and local government and the issues we face.

This is all part of the wider Local Democracy Week initiative.

This is the first of what could become many posts telling you about what I am up to.

Unfortunately I’m just about to go off to a meeting of the Hertfordshire Police Authority Audit Committee so this will have to wait!
